Description
Molokai is quiet. Kaunakai Harbor is very pastoral and was a nice change from the frenetic pace of Lahaina. However we did get awakened at 6 am by the toot of a tug that seemed to be hovering over us as I peered sleepily up from our cockpit bed. Jumping quickly to the VHF radio we determined that he wanted us to move even further from the dock as he was bringing a fuel barge in. That will get your adrenaline going in the morning. We moved over so that we were nearly hanging off the green can marking the outermost edge of the anchorage. The night before we had determined we couldn't go any further towards land.
Jon walked into town later that morning and bought some lovely fruit. We stayed an extra night because it was so peaceful there (after the odd fuel barge went on its way). The showers were nice, too. The harbormaster was on vacation for most of August so payment was on the honor system, but we were glad to pay for such warm showers. Many anchorage in Hawaii don't have them.
